Kuranda QLD

Kuranda is a small town surrounded by rainforest located in the hinterland above Cairns in Far North Queensland. Rare Earth have been running projects with the Kuku Yalanji tribe for over 10 years.

White Cockatoo Land is an interactive CD-ROM produced in partnership with Cape York elder Lance Riley, Peter Costello, the Australian Conservation Company and Rahm Adamedes.

Peter Costello and Lance Riley, tribal elders from Cape York, are members of the 'Stolen Generation', and here give first-hand accounts of being taken from their parents to be raised in outback missions. As well on this CD-ROM, we encounter the Mayi Wumba dance troupe performing coroboree, with songs performed with traditional instruments, words from the Djabuganydji language, and native bird calls. Also, videos and images immerse us in the world of wildfoods, spearmaking and tribal lore as lived by indigenous Australians of Ku Ku Thaypan and Sunset Kuku Yalangii people.
